THE
MINI-MAXI-ORCHESTRA
With his latest project – The Mini-Maxi-Orchestra – Maximilian brings to life a blend of jazz tradition and orchestral music of the nineteenth century. His sense of dramaturgy and motivic development is influenced by composers such as Bob Brookmeyer, Kenny Wheeler, Stan Kenton, Igor Stravinsky, and Maurice Ravel.
The orchestra includes a 11-piece large ensemble of jazz musicians and a chamber orchestra of 21 instrumentalists. Emphasis in the compositions is put on dramaturgically long shapes. Along with the enormous variety of sound colours offered by this ensemble, different interpretations of tempo and pulse, as well as various concepts from the realms of aleatoric and improvised music, stand in the centre of attention. Contrasts between the different genres will be worked out and then fused together again.
