SH4IKH

QUARTET

SPINNEN

NETZ

Lovely melodies, composed with dedication, played in a fragile and intense, sophisticated and expressive way. All of this is surrounded by energetic grooves and melancholic sounds.

In summer 2015 this band was founded by saxophonist and composer Maximilian Shaikh- Yousef – winner of the Frankfurt Jazz Award 2018. His music represents a mixture of Arabic sounds, combined with elements of modern and contemporary jazz as well as classical literature. The distinct sound of the band is created through the musical signature of the composer and the individual approach of each of its members. In November 2019 Maximilian Shaikh-Yousef and his band won the Young Munich Jazz Award.

Band:

Maximilian Shaikh-Yousef – saxophone & flute

Lukas Moriz – piano

Bastian Weinig – bass

Leopold Ebert – drums

"Winner of the 1st prize is the SH4iKH quartet from Mainz. The Frankfurt based alto and soprano saxophonist Maximilian Shaikh-Yousef with Lukas Moriz on piano, Bastian Weinig on bass and Leopold Ebert on drums convinced the audience and probably also the jury with well thought out and surprising compositions, rooted in modern jazz and spiced with a pinch of Arabic music."
- Godehard Lutz, JazzZeitung

"Shaikh-Yousef's brilliantly crafted compositions are a delicate blend of modern European jazz with Arabic nuances, small ornaments and rhythmic accents.."

- Oliver Hochkeppel, Süddeutsche Zeitung
